This week's (Sept. 10-13, 2024) vocabulary words are:
P1 & P2- gnaw P3 & P4- gnome P5 & P6- gnash
Encourage your child to learn and write the meaning of their grade word, then put it into the 'mailbox' next to my class door. Also, use the word in your conversations to model how to use the word in the appropriate context.

Don't forget to use our school library AND return our books! Also, please visit the Bermuda Youth Library in Hamilton. They have lots to offer.
Primary One and Two Ideas:
1.Have your child say two words that rhyme. Repeat.
2. You say two words. Have your child determine whether or not they rhyme. Repeat.
3. Write a 3-letter word. Have your child write two words from the same family. (E.g. if you write 'hop', your child may write 'bop', 'sop', etc..
4. say a 3-letter word. Have your child say it to him-/herself slowly before attempting to write.
Discussion points to help increase comprehension when reading (Reading Levels A-G):
BEFORE READING:
What do you think this book will be about (by looking at the cover)?
Do you think this text is fiction (made-up) or non-fiction(informational, biography, etc)? How can you tell?
DURING:
What do you think might happen next? What makes you think so?
What do you think (character’s name) is planning to do?
After
What was this story about? (Expect a summary.)
Talk about the characters’ feelings.
Did you enjoy this book? Explain why or why not.
Comprehension questions for reading levels H-L:
Note words with which your child is having difficulty and create a Words That I Need to Know list with them.

What genre is this text?(In other words, is this a fantasy, realistic fiction, or informational text?)
What text features help you to know this? ( Example answer: I know that this is fiction because the animals are talking and wearing clothes.)

What do you think the author wants you to think about (in informational texts)?
