What is DreamBox?

DreamBox is an adaptive, online K-8 math program designed to complement classroom instruction and deliver results. Studies show students who complete 5 or more lesson per week experience more learning growth than their peers who complete fewer. The recommended usage for students is 60 to 90 minutes per week, at school or at home. Non-optional DreamBox lab sessions are timetabled, teachers must take their classes to the lab during this time.  The lab sessions are most effective if students come prepared with headphones. If they do note already have them please purchase a set.

In order for students to reach their weekly lesson goals, it is recommended that teachers set up multiple sessions of DreamBox throughout the week and have students complete at least one or two lessons every time they log in. Students are encouraged to develop the following habits:

• Be okay with mistakes. As long as students complete lessons, DreamBox will be able to assess their comprehension and adapt.
• Work independently. Helping a student through a lesson can progress them beyond their current abilities and lead to frustration.
• Only use the virtual manipulatives. DreamBox lessons are designed for students to think through problems without the use of pencil and paper.
• Use the help/hint button when needed.
• Use headphones with the volume on.

Note: Students can access their DreamBox accounts at home or when travelling. Consequently, I am challenging them to exceed the recommended 60-90 minutes per week. In addition to purchasing a set of headphones, I am am also asking that you secure your child’s user name and password and commit to ensuring that he/she does a minimum of 15-minute nightly sessions.
